The Beat Goes On Hillcrest Drummers to Perform at MA State House
The beat goes on for the Hillcrest Drummers, an eight-member drumming group of students from Hillcrest Educational Centers. At their first major performance during Hillcrest's annual Robert "Bees" Prendergast St. Patrick's Day Celebration in March, they received a standing ovation from the crowd of over 300. Since, they have performed at Pittsfield's 3rd Thursday street festival, and on the Hillcrest award-winning float in Pittsfield's July 4th parade. This Tuesday, July 13 they will give one of their biggest performances to date, on Beacon Hill. The group will perform at the Massachusetts State House per the personal invitation of Senate President Therese Murray and Senator Ben Downing.
After the group's performance at the St. Patrick's Day Celebration, Murray who was honored that evening, was so impressed with their talent and dedication, she invited them to perform at the State House.
Hillcrest President Gerard Burke said, "This invitation to perform on Beacon Hill is truly an honor for our students. What Aimee Gelinas [the drumming instructor] and these kids have accomplished so far has exceeded all expectations." Burke added, "We could not be more proud of them, and they should certainly be extremely proud of themselves. We continue to look forward to seeing what great things lay ahead for this group of truly exceptional children."
The Hillcrest Drummers will perform at the Grand Stair Case at 1 pm and in a formal session of the Massachusetts Senate at 2 pm. The group will have a private reception and luncheon with both Murray and Downing.
