• Hillcrest to Hold Eleventh Annual St. Patrick's Celebration 02/29/2012
Hillcrest Educational Centers' Eleventh Annual Robert 'Bees' Prendergast St. Patrick's Celebration will take place Thursday, March 22, 2011, at the Country Club of Pittsfield from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Tickets for the celebration are $50 each. Proceeds will benefit the educational programs at Hillcrest Educational Centers. Lead sponsors include, Action Ambulance, Berkshire Money Management, Greylock Federal Credit Union and Pignatelli Electrical Contractors.
In keeping with the event's Celtic traditions, Hillcrest will honor, Dr. Howard 'Jake' Eberwein III, as their Irish Person of the Year. Dr. Eberwein began his career in Berkshire County in 1994 as a biology/chemistry teacher and then served four years as Principal of Pittsfield High School before being named Superintendent of Schools in 2008. Eberwein is also an adjunct professor and has been a member of several state and local committees, including the Task Force on Proficiency Gaps, the State Data Warehouse Steering Committee, the Urban Superintendent's Network, Compact for Higher Education, the Berkshire United Way, Habitat for Humanity, the Berkshire Museum, and the Readiness Center Advisory Board. He coaches youth baseball and basketball and lives in Dalton with his wife Lareina and their children, Elena, Emilia, Easton, Ellis and Ava.
Additionally, Hillcrest will present the Judge John A. Barry Community Service Award to locally owned Crescent Creamery and principal partners, John O'Brien, President, and Robert 'Bob' Keegan, Vice President. Crescent Creamery is a family business celebrating their 75th Anniversary. Founded in 1936, they continue to promote a strong culture of allegiance to Berkshire County by their, and their employees, support of community based programs and initiatives. These include; Berkshire United Way, Rotary Club of Pittsfield, Gladys Allen Brigham Center, Great Trails Council, Pittsfield Youth Council and the Berkshire Regional Employment Board. Crescent Creamery distributes milk and dairy products from local and regional farms for the food service industry and retailers in Berkshire County, New England and New York.
Hillcrest President and CEO, Gerard Burke, said, "This traditional event captures the lively spirit of Hillcrest's founding board member, Bees Prendergast, and continues his legacy by bringing our longtime, and new, supporters together for an evening. It's also a super opportunity to honor those who have shown outstanding leadership in Berkshire County with the Prendergast and Judge Barry Awards. Jake, Bob and John are emblematic of their drive and work ethic. Our agency's defining commitment of providing frontline and critical therapeutic care to students and their families could not be met without our communities' advocacy -we recognize and celebrate this dedication."
The reception features, heavy hors d'oeuvres, buffet selections, door prizes, live and silent auction, with Irish entertainment provided by The Brodie Mountain Boys.
