Medical Services

    At Hillcrest Educational Centers Inc. a primary physician provides the needed medical care for the students. All of the students receive a yearly physical and are also seen by the physician when needed. In addition to the primary medical care, each student is evaluated specific to a medical need and referrals are made to specialty physicians when appropriate. Our primary physician is always available to consult and instruct nursing to further care if necessary. Each campus has a psychiatrist that is responsible for the assessment of each student and medication needs if appropriate on a regular basis.
    A Nursing Coordinator over sees all of the campuses nursing departments. Each campus has a dedicated nursing staff that is managed by a lead nurse. The nursing staff is knowledgeable in psychiatric nursing and keen medical assessment skills. The nursing staff monitors each student and early prevention is the key to keeping a healthy student body. The nurses insure that the student's medical needs are met on a timely basis.
    Educating each student to optimal health is a goal and process each student receives from nursing through consistent teaching. Our nursing department is consistently looking for areas that can be developed into teaching tools for students and staff alike. When a new student with a medical condition is referred to a campus, nursing takes the opportunity to teach staff to any medical needs the student may have and educate the staff to whatever the medical condition is. This process not only brings awareness to the staff of medical conditions but also gives them the information that they need for what should be reported to the nursing department, and what the staff should be aware of. The medical department, which includes the nursing department, primary physician and nurse practioners and psychiatrist, is an integral part of the interdisciplinary team.
